WhisperTyping is a Windows voice typing application that uses state-of-the-art voice-to-text models to transcribe your voice to text. The transcribed text is automatically typed using a virtual keyboard. WhisperTyping also has the optional ability to enhance transcriptions with AI through its AI Modes feature.

How to Use

WhisperTyping works in any text field—Word, Office applications, email clients, browsers, messaging apps, or any other application where you can type.

  1. Place your cursor in a text field where you want the text to appear
  2. Press your hotkey (CapsLock by default) to start recording
  3. Speak what you want to type
  4. Press the hotkey again to stop recording and transcribe

The hotkey can be customized in Settings → Hotkeys. Popular alternatives include F1-F12, ~ (Tilde), Scroll Lock, or Pause.

Activation with Modifier Keys

You can also activate recording using modifier key combinations like Ctrl+Shift, Ctrl+Alt, or Win+Ctrl. Hold the keys to record, release to transcribe. Configure in Settings → Hotkeys.

Double-Tap to Add Enter

In toggle mode, double-tap your hotkey to stop recording and automatically add an Enter keystroke after the transcription. Useful for sending messages in chat apps or dictating lists without touching your keyboard. Can be disabled in Settings → Advanced.

Mouse Button Activation

Use the middle mouse button to toggle recording for hands-free operation. Learn more about mouse activation, including how to map your DPI button and control your computer with one hand.

Repaste Hotkey

Press Ctrl+Alt+V to repaste the last dictated text. Useful if you forgot to place your cursor in a text field before dictating—your transcription is saved and can be repasted once you click into the correct location.

Tips

Improve Accuracy with Custom Vocabulary

Add names, technical terms, and context to your vocabulary in Settings → Vocabulary. This helps the transcription engine recognize specialized words.

Minimize to System Tray

Click the minimize button to hide WhisperTyping to the system tray. You can also enable "Start minimized" in Settings → Preferences to have it start hidden automatically.

Use Text Replacements

Set up automatic text replacements in Settings → Replacements to expand abbreviations or customize how certain words are typed.
